ROLE

UX, UI Designer

The State of Illinois sought a demo for a complex government vendor portal dashboard, aiming to create an initial design as part of a bid for the project. I worked closely with Roland iCard and Simply Works Agency to understand the requirements, followed by in-depth research and development of wireframes. The UI/UX design focused on creating a clean, user-friendly, and visually appealing interface that aligned with the state’s branding. Key challenges included addressing the diverse needs of government vendors and ensuring scalability for future enhancements. Through iterative feedback and usability testing, I crafted a polished demo that was well-received for its innovation and functionality, even though Simply iCard was not able to secure the project. The positive feedback affirmed the quality of my design approach.

Design Overview

Summary

The State of Illinois sought a demo for a complex government vendor portal dashboard. The goal was to create an initial design to submit as part of a bid to win the project. Although we did not secure the project, the design was highly appreciated for its quality and innovation.

Design Process

Discussion and Research:

The project began with extensive discussions with Roland iCard and the team at Simply Works Agency. We aimed to understand the specific needs and requirements of the State of Illinois for their vendor portal. This was followed by thorough research into existing government vendor portals, identifying best practices and areas for improvement.

Research and Paperwork:

We documented all project requirements, objectives, and constraints. This included creating detailed project briefs and outlining the scope of work. The paperwork ensured that all team members were aligned and had a clear understanding of the project goals.

Wireframe Development:

Based on our research and discussions, we developed wireframes to outline the structure and layout of the vendor portal dashboard. These wireframes focused on creating an intuitive and user-friendly interface that would meet the needs of various stakeholders. We iterated on these wireframes based on feedback from the team.

UI/UX Design:

With the wireframes approved, we moved on to the UI/UX design phase. The challenge was to create a visually appealing and functional design that could handle the complexity of a government vendor portal. We focused on ensuring the design was clean, professional, and easy to navigate. The design incorporated elements that reflected the State of Illinois' branding and identity.

Challenges:

One of the main challenges was designing a dashboard that could accommodate the diverse needs of government vendors while remaining user-friendly. Additionally, ensuring the design was scalable and adaptable for future enhancements added another layer of complexity.

Solutions:

To address these challenges, we adopted a user-centric approach, conducting usability tests to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments. We also leveraged modular design principles to ensure the dashboard could be easily updated and expanded in the future. Regular feedback sessions with Roland iCard and the team helped refine the design and ensure it met all requirements.

Final Delivery:

The final demo was a polished and professional design that effectively showcased our vision for the State of Illinois vendor portal dashboard. The design was well-received and appreciated for its clarity, functionality, and innovative approach. Although we did not win the project, the positive feedback validated our design approach and efforts.

The State of Illinois vendor portal dashboard project was a valuable learning experience. Working with Roland iCard and the Simply Works Agency team, we created a demo that highlighted the importance of thorough research, effective collaboration, and user-centric design. Despite not securing the project, the appreciation for our design reinforced the value of our approach and set a strong foundation for future projects.
